Founded in 2012 by Koichiro Wada and Yusuke Otsuka, Coincheck is one of Japan’s largest and most established cryptocurrency exchanges. Headquartered in Tokyo, it is regulated by the Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA). Coincheck offers a wide range of services, including trading of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies, as well as an NFT marketplace. In April 2018, Coincheck was acquired by Monex Group for approximately 3.6 billion yen (about $33.5 million). In December 2024, Coincheck completed a merger with Thunder Bridge Capital Partners IV, Inc., a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), and began publicly trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbols "CNCK" and "CNCKW".
